Retyping is where reportable errors are born.
In a supervised environment the cost of an error is not the correction. It is having to explain it.
Client onboarding, document verification, regulatory returns and reconciliations share one shape: reading a value from one system and entering it into another. It is long, uniform work that punishes a single lapse of concentration, which is precisely the shape of task people perform worst.
Checking is as expensive as doing, so in practice verification is partial. That means confidence in the output is usually lower than anyone is comfortable saying out loud.
What to automate
Where it pays, and where it should not go.
The line is not about capability. It is about what it costs to be wrong.
Automate
Extraction and validation of values against explicit rules, form population, document checks, and assembling routine returns. The typing, not the deciding.
Human gate, always
A person approves before anything is signed or submitted. In a supervised environment the ability to show a human approved, and to reconstruct the basis, is worth more than the seconds it costs.
Stop, do not guess
Where a value is missing, ambiguous or fails a rule, the workflow halts and surfaces it. A workflow that never stops is not careful, it is confident.
Audit by default
What the system was given, what it decided and on what basis, recorded whether or not anyone asks. Regulators care less about the technology than about evidence.
Proof
285 fields, 108 controls.
Measured on a real regulated workflow.
In one build for a business operating under financial-services supervision, 285 separate fields moved off manual entry into a validated workflow, with 108 out of 108 controls passing and a person approving before signature.
Transcription errors from manual copying became structurally impossible rather than merely rare, because no human hand copies a value between systems. The remaining risk sits in the source data and the rules, both explicit and testable, which is a far better place for risk to live than in someone's concentration.
